{Project} New Floors

I've had this project on my "to do" list forever. New floors for my room and Cooper's. I had an unfortunate water leak last Christmas that left a hole in my wall and 8 square feet of my master bedroom uncarpeted. The re-flooring project was pushed back until I could no longer walk through my room without wincing. My dad and I put in Cooper's floor a few weeks ago and I loved it so much I couldn't wait long to complete my room. Here are the before and during photos - after shots will come soon when I've finished replacing the outlets and light switches (assuming I don't electrocute myself in the process!)

I painted my room last weekend - "quietude" from Sherwin Williams. If my freshly painted room feels anything close to quietude, this paint will be worth its weight in gold.

Getting the room ready was actually the most time consuming part of the process. You cannot imagine the dust that lived beneath my carpet. It looked like a beach. Yuck.

After the floors were layed, we started on the quarter round to finish off the baseboards and hold the flooring in place. What seemed like the easy part was so stinking frustrating! Everyone took a turn trying to nail these suckers into place and everyone failed. Colin and Dad thought I was just a weakling (hence taking my picture when they thought I was failing at an easy job!) but they couldn't do it either! Ha!

Colin insisted on saving the ruined nails - like souvenirs of the torturous "quarter round experience"!

And we ALL needed one of these after a long day laying floors. But they look SO GOOD! I honestly haven't wanted to leave my room all day. It feels like a resort in here and I'll be glad to share pictures when aforementioned quarter round is finally nailed in and outlets are replaced and curtains are ironed. Someday soon! As for now, I'm just enjoying walking barefoot through my room...

New Best Friend: Scooter

Hands down the best present Cooper received was his green scooter from Santa. Santa must have known how badly this little boy wanted to "scoot" around the cul-de-sac with his neighborhood friends and how important it was that the scooter was green. (After all, you must be able to tell which scooter is yours amongst the piles of scooters littered up and down the street!) Honestly, this little scooter brings Cooper so much joy that I've tried to capture the moment several times... he just moves so quickly I'm rarely ever able to get a good photo! Today he humored good ol' mom with a spin around the driveway for a photo shoot. Look at this happy kid!

Here's to many more spins around the block with this new best friend!

Nothing sweeter...

... than watching a child sleeping. Bible in his hands - even better.

*We just laid new wood flooring in Cooper's room and rearranged his furniture. It looks WONDERFUL and it feels like he has so much more room to play! (Not to mention that now his balls can bounce and his trains can drive on the hard flat surface) I originally went into his room to take photos of his new floors, but found that he had apparently read himself a Bible story and put himself to bed while I was cooking dinner. Pictures of the new floors coming soon - I'm so impressed with our handiwork and eager to get started replacing the carpet in my room with wood as well. : )

My favorite gift

My very favorite gift from Christmas 2010: a subscription to The Week magazine. Now, I received some pretty cool things for Christmas, (including some awesome new Nikes) but none make me as excited as the gem that will fill my mailbox each week. I really like this magazine. That is an understatement. I love it. I was introduced to this magazine last spring and was hooked almost instantly. I read it by the pool and while I sit on the driveway watching Cooper ride his bike. Although I don't have much "free time" to read, I always make time for my Week! I have been known to steal it from coffee tables and kitchen counters. It's that good!

The Week is "all you need to know about everything that matters". It gives a brief run-down of the current events of the week from America and the world. It gives me just enough information about news, politics, pop culture and other "important" things that I would read in the newspaper (if I had time to read it!) I like that it seems fairly politically balanced and both sides of any issue are represented. My favorite sections are "It must be true, I read it in the tabloids" and "Only in America" and "Boring but important".

My favorite "friend" is sitting on the counter as I write, waiting for tomorrow afternoon's nap time... while Coop sleeps I'll sip my Diet Coke and enjoy!

...could you serve popsicles in January!

Temperatures have been in the mid-sixties for a few weeks but we're looking forward to potential jacket weather sometime soon. Last call for popsicles!

Big WIN!

Forgive me for the delay in gloating about my Horned Frog's big WIN over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. This week has been busy with getting back to school and back into our "normal" routine. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity to say RAH, RAH, TCU!

We knew these crazy purple wigs would come in handy! My parents hosted a little game-watching party and all in attendance were forced to wear the wigs and proclaim TCU Rose Bowl champions! My parents sweet friends put up with our craziness...

My dad and I are very proud to be TCU alumni and look forward to seeing what this big win does for our recruiting next football season!
